Got this link from Slashdot. I guess I will now have to open up my Ubuntu (for sandbox purposes) so that I can play this game since IE8 will not run this one. lol

It was one of my first computer experiences with the bleeps for gunfire. Windows hadn't long come out at the time if I remember rightly. I know when I did information technology we started off with works for DOS. Those were the days!

Ubuntu 64 and Firefox 12 and this game isn't working for me; just a blank black box. Not sure what's going on but about to close Ubuntu and open XP again. Sad I am. lol

I actually still have this installed on my PC.

lol; might try to find an installer Rod. Anyway, I'm back in XP world since apparently it won't work in my Ubuntu 64 VM. Won't run it in Win7 since I don't use Win7 for anything but artwork (i.e., I don't browse in Win7; one day I will install Sandboxie in Win7, but I do like that I'm now double-sandboxed protected in XP).

So you run all your programs in a sandboxed sandboxie?

I run Sandboxie in my XP VM. The XP VM is a Sandbox (i.e, can kill the session with a simple x and recover from a saved snapshot in around 5 seconds.). I run Sandboxie inside my XP VM so that is what I mean by double-sandboxed. Every OS update or major update (a Sandboxie update for instance), I crash the session, recover from the last saved snapshot, and commence to install the updates or program, then I create a new snapshot. I know it sound paranoid and tedious but trust me when I tell you that I am pretty much immune to most attacks. I do run a rudimentary anti-trojan (not an anti-virus) program in my XP VM but it only quivered once and I laughed at it because of what I mentioned above. I'm pretty convinced (based on seeing way too many infected PCs since I use to have to repair them) that I came up with a more then fool-proof method for protecting my system, and after nearly 4 years (and only infected Media Militia site tried to do a drive by attack; got all my skulls clip-art from that site and a few other brushes too. I of course laughed at that situation and recovered in around 5 seconds to 10 seconds) I've yet had anything that I was not able to simply recover from in mere seconds. Setting up VMs as Sandboxes for personal protection is the only way to protect your system period Rod. Any other protection is just a false sense of security. Of course this method still relies on a firewall and XP's firewall has been more then adequate for my needs. I do have my Win7 OS protected with MSE and it has a good 2 way firewall but the only time I really worry is the few times I go online to get a G'MIC updates, or check for Photoshop updates or click on the go to website options in the various programs that I run in Win7.

I actually have this game installed on an old PC that I have Win 95 on. I accumulated quite a few games back then and I keep that 'puter just so I can play them occaisionally. I had to load the darn thing from floppys.

That's the beauty of Virtual Machines Drac. I actually have a Win98 VM which I use to solely play my Uno game. lol

Win98 should still be able to run those old games Drac (not sure how difficult it will be to create a Win95 VM because of sound drivers and such; was a pain enough for Win98 but I finally managed to do it {no support for Win98; only pretty much XP and above}).

I wish I was as tech savy as you and Rod and just about everyone else on GC for that matter. It would be sweet to have a VM to play all my old games on, but I wouldn't have a clue how to even begin. It would probably take way more hand holding than anyone would have patience for.

I use Virtualbox Drac. After you install it, you create the new VM (give it whatever memory, harddrive space and such you feel your needs are for that VM) and then you install the OS using the launch interface; it's like launching a computer.

I got this working in ubuntu firefox by right-clicking on the game screen and selecting "show only this frame".

I assumed something that I shouldn't have dd; I did not have flash installed so I did just that and it worked quite well but I wish they had a mouse option (use to play with mouse and button; lol). Glad that it at least works fine in Ubuntu and Firefox (typing this message now in Ubuntu). Did Didn't really play long since I guess I grew up. lol

Man, I remember this game when it came out, I was just a kid back then but this game was like so awesome... you got to kill nazis and it was like in a first person perspective which was an entirely new thing for shooting games back then...

There was even a level editor for the game, which was fun.

But then Doom came out and no one remembered this game anymore...

Oh I remember Doom too dd; the movie with the Rock (Dwayne Johnson ) sucked though. lol

Oh I never watched the movie and I don't want to see it, ever. There's no way a hollywood movie could ever capture the spirit of the original Doom. A small-budget independent film maybe, but hollywood has way too many marketing researchers and other business suits yammering on about target demographics, ratings, censorship and such... no thanks.

I actually had the old freeware DOS stick man version, i just downloaded and installed the 3-D version.
