That is some luscious grass you've got in the backyard! Looks like a very nice peaceful area. Beautiful trees too.

When the sun gets to that side in the early evening it is completely golden. I don't have a camera that will do it justice but anyway, in mid-June it turns to green and just looks like an ordinary Maple. The red maple that is closest to the house will turn to a bright red in the fall.

I love autumn colours. I'd love to see that red maple in the autumn.

Thank you guys, we work hard at it and spend lots on fertilizers, lol Since Killex weed killer and pesticides are now outlawed in Canada, it makes it hard but some of my home remedies work. lol. We were sneaking it back from the States all the time but now if you get caught, there is a very heavy fine.

how do you keep all those dandelions in the neighbors lawn from getting into your lawn if you can't use weed and feed?

That definitely is some green grass Molly. Our yard is a repository for endangered plant species (i.e. all weeds; lol) but it does stay green all year long literally (most of my neighbor's years turn brown). Only advantage Winter has is the grass doesn't need mowing, but does so by February (I use to be able to wait until the last week of March but our Winter has been awesomely mild this past year; so has our Spring with all kinds of rain (but a few more then warm enough days, but the flowers are flourishing and the grass (well plants) are all green). Looks like Springs made a comfortable place in O' Canada too.

Our yard is mostly mowed weeds, too! But it's amazing that if you keep mowing weeds, it turns into mostly grass. Not the nice "lawn" grass, more like crabgrass, but grass, nevertheless.

Very cool 2-ton, raised beds sound like a good idea to keep the water from running down the hill.

they are a GREAT idea to keep the weeds down. You do have to make sure they get enough water when it doesn't rain much, but they are so much easier to care for than just tilling up an area of the ground.
I tried to take a pano photo using U-scape-it on my phone but it didn't work all that well and there is no way to link to it except by email or facebook. grrrr.

Yes and in some places where your garden runs down hill, the rains usually run off before they soak in. That is a good way to combat that problem.

It would definitely be easier to do a few raised beds than try to terrace the slopes!

I really like raised beds for intensive gardening. I made mine out of landscaping timbers so I could sit on the edge when I worked on the gardens.

I used to have deer and rabbits at my old house in Durham, NC. I lived against a forest. There was a bunny nest that popped up one day in the "driveway" (flat patch of grass). I ended up just designating a new parking spot.

My new house doesn't even have a backyard. It's on a corner lot and is covered with buildings.

I do have a fountain, though

The previous owners neglected it, and some of the plumbing has rusted. When I turned it on, it shot a stream of water clear into the neighbor's yard. (yellow sign in the distance)




I did buy the tools to restore it, though. It could look very nice one day, especially if I get some lighting into that frame.
