Partha,
Thanks again for this 64bit version of Gimp with a heap of plugins. I installed it the other day. However, I am getting the following error when trying to update the G'mic filters:

Filters update from Internet (partially) failed !

Unable to reach these filters sources :

* http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gmic_def.1513
* http://mpkaro.helmholtz-muenchen.de/~karo/karos.gmic
* http://www.greyc.ensicaen.fr/~dtschump/ronounours.gmic

* http://s406833247.websitehome.co.uk/gmi ... comix.gmic
* http://gentlemanbeggar.bplaced.net/gent ... _gmic.gmic

* http://www.iain.bplaced.net/iain_fergusson.gmic
* http://s406833247.websitehome.co.uk/gmi ... coder.gmic

In addition I get the following in another popup window:

curl.exe - System Error
The program can't start because libcurl-4.dll is missing from your
computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Charlie34,

Sorry about that. I fixed this a couple of days or so ago. Would you be kind enough to download again to get all the latest fixes (some upstream bugs have been fixed also)?

Thanks,
Partha

Partha,
Sure, I can do that. Should I uninstall the current version first, or can I simply install the latest version?

I installed it right over top Charlie, maybe Partha will tell you something else, but anyway it worked well.

Really works well Partha, (nice job)
I just wish I had it in Fedora so I wouldn't have to go to Windows. Fedora 17 will be coming out in two weeks and I think 2.8 is supposed to be in it.

Thanks Molly. :)

Are you comfortable building by yourself? Then it's relatively easy to get it running on Fedora.

No I am not Partha.
The only thing I know how to build is a house, and pretty good at it.
I like out of the box stuff. :proppeng :jackbox

Totally. I was going to say to Molly that if she has that skill, building Gimp on Fedora would be a piece of cake; maybe the whole cake.

Nah a whole different ballgame. Building a house you don't have to have a lot of fancy shortcuts and codes or scripts, etc etc.

@Partha:
Just reporting a strange behaviour I have with both 32 and 64 bits builds you shared (lesser slowdown on the 32 bits though), I don't know if this due to gimp 2.8 itself or my system or your builds. There is a strong tearing phenomenon and associated slowdown when I manipulate images, it reminds me the vertical synchro problem seen in some games.

It's a problem with gtk+ which will probably be with us till Gimp is upgraded to gtk+ 3.x. There is a version that is being worked on, but it's not ready for prime-time. The current development focus is high-bit depth processing.

Is a portable version of the recent gimp still planned at some point, or is that problem reported on the website about the user directory still there ?

I have XP on my desktop and I decided to load the new 2.8 on my Win 7 laptop but I'm not that familiar with Win 7. Can someone please tell me where the heck the 2.8 user folder is? I looked in C://Users/Dave/ but it's not there.
