I am wondering how would I go about making a pattern like this http://a4.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... 5c4a/l.jpg I've been thinking but can't come up with any ideas.

Just create a path as a triangle, and then duplicate and rotate by 10 degrees 9 times.

I tried that and I guess I don't understand what you mean. I made a triangle with the bezier tool and duped it 9 times then I started from the first dupe and rotated it 10 pixels but nothing happens. Do I start out with a white layer to put the triangle on? :peng

Why not just use the script? :)

It creates animated ones too!

Thanks Rod,
I have never seen that script. I downloaded it and I will try it. But I would also like to be able to do it with ofnuts method. It looks so easy but I am over looking something.

Here is one done with the script, now I want to learn how to do it without the script.

10 degrees, not 10 pixels...
In slow motion:
You create a triangle path with a 5° angle (use guides and a little trig if you want the right angle easily):

Then you make 8 copies, and using the Rotate tool in "transform path" mode (red arrow) you rotate each by the adequate multiple of 10°, making sure the rotation center is the center of the sun of course:

Then you merge the visible paths, and get a selection from that merged path, that you can, for instance, bucket fill:

Thank you very much ofnuts. I like to learn to do some of the things without counting on scripts all the time, even though I appreciate that a lot and the hard work people put into them.
I will try your way after supper. :teeth

Thanks for the script. A gradient in difference mode on a fractal background.

I used a fractal background and I opened the script and used the options for gradient and difference mode. Nothing else - simple.

Ok I did a fractal one and used ten frames, and it gave a little jerk after the end of each cycle, so I did it again with 20 frames and it still does the jerk. Yes I deleted the bottom layer.

Check the order of your frames. One appears to be out of sequence. Most likely 1, 10 or 20.
