MareroQ or Rod does anyone know why the manager using the same resouces will not work on a 2.6 and 2.8 install properly becouse when I select a brush pack in 2.6 then switch to 2.8 and open brush manager it shows the brush pack as selected but thehey are not loaded and they will not load unless I deselect and then open the manager again and reselect.

2.6 and 2,8 both run modules from 2 different python versions, and locations.
I believe ( most ) Gimp-2.6 python modules will run with python 2.7 so maybe if you change the pygimp.interp to read the location of the gimp-2.8\ python\pythonw.exe it will work. :)

Not sure though.

Gurm does it well by maintaining a list of installed options

In the gurm.ini for 2.8 after I load the ball bearing folder it shows
[Brush Manager]
useManager = yes
gimpPath = C:\Users\Graechan\.gimp-2.8\brushes\Added Resources
userPath = C:\Gurm\brushes
extensions = .gbr,.vbr,.gih,.abr,
installedOptions = Ball Bearing,

But the gurm.ini file file for 2.6 shows
[Brush Manager]
useManager = yes
gimpPath = C:\Users\Graechan\.gimp-2.6\brushes
userPath = C:\Gurm\brushes
extensions = .gbr,.vbr,.gih,.abr,
installedOptions =

Which is a true reflection of what is loaded from the same resouce files in both 2.6 and 2.8

Best way to find that out is open the pref\brushes folder and see whats there. :)
Same with gimp-2.6\brushes folder.
That is why i went ahead and uninstalled all but Gimp-2.8 Portable. There are too many conflicts with everything.Probably why it get's un installed in the first place. :lol

Have you tried instead of directory loading...zips?
7zip batchcompressor works excellent for zipping multi archives quickly and efficiently. I did all my scm files with it.Now i can load one at a time or 2 or whatever not a whole directory at once. :)

I am going to do the same with my brushes and patterns.

On a side note-
What would be nice is if there was a button on each manager to clear all loaded session files you added before closing Gimp down. Optional of course (hence the button). :)

Another solution is possibly run one set of resources from a USB drive.
Either way i am pretty sure you need to create 2 separate resource sets for 2 Gimps to load the same sets consecutively.
It come down to do you really need Gimp-2.6.12?
Do you have enough space to create another set of resources?
Is a separate set of resources on a removable drive feasible? :)

Personally i would go with one install and one set of resources, but if you really, really need both installs/versions then i would go with another set on a removable USB flash drive.

Maybe RobA could modify the file to store the information like Gurm does, the manager and gurm.py files are similiar.

I found a nice open src zip batch archiver.This will take all the scm in one folder and batch zip them with the same name in the same folder.Then you just need to move them to your manager folder.

For new-ish linux users you probably have a zip utility already installed, if not look in your repo.

To check for existance. In a terminal use a plain zip command and you might get something like this
[rich@localhost ~]$ zip
Copyright (c) 1990-2008 Info-ZIP - Type 'zip "-L"' for software license.

To zip a single scm file it is; (remember names are case sensitive and tab will autocomplete as far as possible)
zip filename.scm.zip filename.scm

For a whole folder full of files make a bash file "something.sh"
#!/bin/bash

find . -name "*.scm" | while read fname ; do
     zip "$fname".zip "$fname"
done

Pop this into the folder containing all the .scm files and run from a terminal
sh something.sh

Thanks Rod!
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzipbc/files/Binary/7zip%20Batch%20Compression%200.3.2.7z/download
A very good tool - drag and drop.
Convert all files (~ 1000) *. scm in 2 minutes.
One note: the source file name must be without a point.

I know right?
No more right click send to zip...right click send to zip...this is so much easier on the mouse. :lol
Funny thing is i could only find a very few that do this batch zip on files. You think there would be many more.
Most of the ones i found will zip an entire folder into 1 zip but that's it.This was a Godsend i tell you.

OK, with the way the conversation has gone all over the place, I'm a little confused.

I'd like to try MareroQ's scripts. What do I need to have? Do I need GURM?

Which downloads are the scripts? The Basic Manage Additives on Post 1? or the Script-Fu Manager on #9?

Any help appreciated.

Both :)
You do NOT need GURM for the others to work.

@MareroQ...Is there any way you can compile this manager to work with Linux. Obviously, after trying for 3 days I find that it only works with Windows.

Three days in the wilderness

They should work on your Fedora machine.
Unpack the zip to your local plugins folder
MrQ-Brush_Manager.py
MrQ-Fonts_Manager.py
MrQ-Gradients_Manager.py
MrQ-Paletes_Manager.py
MrQ-Pattern_Manager.py

Make sure the ones you want to use are made executable.

As a quick try-out in Fedora I am just using the Brush Manager, I assume the others are similar.

Make your brushes_alt folder and inside that your set folders. Put some brushes in the set(s) folder(s)
something like this http://i.imgur.com/an1qu.jpg

next edit the python script for your installation.
ACTIVE_DIR=r"/home/molly/.gimp-2.8/brushes"
INSTALL_DIR=r"/home/molly/.gimp-2.8/brushes_alt"

something like this http://i.imgur.com/fAeko.jpg

Now these are context based so to activate you need to *right-click* on the brushes dialog.
http://imgur.com/uiP0U

and you get the brush manager dialog to enable your brush sets.

working here
Hope this helps, its done in a bit of a rush, I will have a better try-out tomorrow on my regular machine.

Thank you rich, tried it all and still doesn't work. I get the brush manager, but when I click it, nothing happens.
