Glad you feel it worth tut status PC. Don't like to doublepost, but if O thinks it is worthy, I don't mind if she wants to copy it in the tut section or have me do so. :)

I think it should be a tutorial, Lyle. Go ahead and copy and paste it into the tut section, please. :hehe

The spider is a render of one in my back yard. I, too, suspect it may have been drinking a bit!
I added some white outline to my spider, maybe too much??

I like it just like that. I think it makes the spider stand out better.

There are many ways to make webs too O; a year ago I had a pretty long stint at them. Once cool Filter Factory plugin (need the Filter Factory Convertor plugin) is Spider Web. More work is needed to help make it more realistic (result is straight filter). Have a few other methods for creating circular webs, but brains bushed right now. :)

Found this interesting web in an image search. Playing around with it a bit. http://www.naturesarts.net/images/Spider/2web%20%282%29.png

On the other hand, look at my search here. There all kinds of interesting ones.

Here's a scarey spider that was in that search.

Years ago a group of scientists made a weird experiment with Spiders and Spiderwebs,

basically they give to each group of spider , a different drug:
LSD, Marjuana, Heroin, Caffein, and so on, to study how drug abuse influence spiderwebs

From a scientific point of view i the experiment was a nonsense, but the spiderwebs were beautiful

From what i remember

The most dangerous drug for coweb makers is by far the coffee under the influence of caffeine the spiders become unable to make a spiderweb or even something close:
With too much Caffe spider try frantically arrange wires here and were, but mostly remain unconnected and the center empty :gaah :bawl

Much better with Marijuana...
some weird changes in the usual geometry, some more intricancy and some spot apparently forgotten, but the spiders seems do their job well even when High on Hemp :weed :

the best were the spidernet created under effect of LSD
the Tripping Spiders added the 3D dimension to their nets :proppeng , but preserving the original geometry :geek .

If Gaudi was a spider would have loved similar 3D spidernet :flirt ...as most of the Gaudi works, the 3D spidernets looks gorgeus even if here and there unfinished .:bowdown

But even more stunning the 3D spidernets seems even more effective of normal spidernet to catch insects

Ah , were the sleeping pills the worse and i confused mescaline with LSD

The photocopies kill many details and the depth

but even from the photocopy (even if saved as gif ) you may see that the mescaline spidernet is not less funtional

Before

After a dose

LSD-25
this spider like all others in this experiment, built a web which is more regular in central angle and spiral spacing, and has a larger catching area.

About how i did

Image 1
for the spider BG i used a texture derived from the spider itself
BG duplicated twice the texture and on 1 dup i used MM/distort sphere, for dup 2 Gimp Polar Cordinate
then i simply let one on top of the other in normal mode (it is so nice work with semitransparent texture, even more when the proportion of transparent area is very high )

Image 2

About the second image that come from a Lylejk tip...a surprising PS filter (works well with Gimp ) "CentreTile" by "Simple" filter...very simple no dialog no preview but is a little gem

i used on on image 1 , and in a flash i got the new cool (even seamless ) BG of image 2
to complete i added on top the original spider ,at the very centre of the image

PS i could remove with transparence all the grey part , i correct the tile eliminating the grey area, but now i just feel too lazy to redo the mapping...if somebody want i may post the improved tile
(Gmic array/normal array is perfect to extend the pattern)
