I'm currently using the patch provided in this bug report.
EDIT: More obvious link: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=673047
As far as I could tell, the patch works.
I've contacted mitch as far as getting the patch applied upstream is concerned.

Not a problem Pauline. I think I have a fix. I will let you know as soon as I test my solution. Would you be willing to test it?

Thanks!

Hi Pauline, 2-ton, WW, et al,

Can you give the following a try?

http://www.partha.com/temp/Gimp.app-2.8.zip

Note that sorting is case-sensitive. For example, A-Z comes before a-z.

You will know immediately if it's working or not.

As a bonus enticement, I have included the latest G'MIC 1.5.1.7. :)

Thanks!!
Partha

will this load separately from my other 2.8, might there be a conflict, or will it just replace the gimp I already have. Should I get rid of the 2.8 mcgimp first? I want to try it out but don't want to make a mess on the machine, lol

I got the new 2.8 and just deleted the installed gimp by dragging it to the trash.

@Partha

Yes it does sort using the method outlined. Caps and then small caps. Its a lot better than before in this regard. Makes finding a lot easier. I thought you get this sorted out, great job. Now just one thing :), I'm use to seeing the mac sort /alphabetize regardless of Caps. It would be nice sometime down the road to see the same sorting as I would see on the mac. It's a process for sure, one step at a time. Thanks for hanging in there for us Mac users!

Just make a backup somewhere or save the original zip file. Now unzip this one and save it in /Applications and you are all set. :)

You will know right away if the sort is working or not.

Thanks 2-ton! :)

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic and claim that it's working. :) Now we need a couple of more feedback!!

I think I will do a write up and release this version on the general population.

Thanks for testing and bearing with me. :)

Love the graphics you created!!

Why would I mind? :) Honored in fact.

Where did you post the link? On your website?

Crap...I moved the original mcgimp folder the desktop and downloaded this new one. It's labeled gimp-1 app. I took it from downloads and put it in the applications...but it won't open. so I put it on my dock, still won't open. I need a mac experts help!!!

* I tried putting it on my desktop...nada. so I put it back on the dock until I figure something out. Both other gimps were no problem, not sure why I can't do this one. So not only can I NOT open the new McGimp, but I cannot open the first McGimp anymore either. Argh. I'm going to go fix dinner and maybe tonight I will trash both the mcgimps and start over and hopefully have more luck. This is the one thing that annoys me about osx...no transparency. In windows it is easy to see where everything is and how to move it, in OSX, more is hidden so I cannot improvise.

**Argh, trashed both mcgimps and downloaded again, it decompressed on its' own, and I put into application folder from the download folder, and ther logo is there but it won't open. It gives a little bounce and then nothing. I did notice that I have 3 application folders for whatever reason. One if on the mac hard drive and two are on my name. I assume it goes in the main mac one as that is where my 2.6 resides. Sadly, I now have no mcgimp at all.
