Text-Flow effect revisited

Remember way back when i challenged you guys to try and create this effect?

Well i think i am getting closer to getting it right.

Still not quite there though.

I still do not get how they wrapped the text around the man unless that man was a 3-D rendered image from DAZ or something?

A displacement map might work but it might break up the text a bit. Maybe worth a try?

Would bump mapping work on the guy?

I have played around with a similar effect and bump mapping is basically a highlight and shadowing effect whereas displacement is basically an offset distortion. I can't think of anything that will actually give you a "wrap" type distortion like Lens Effect or Map to Sphere does. I would love to know how this was accomplished in the first image.

It appears like Rod said, a 3D image was used. Perhaps Color to Alpha on a 3D image to remove the color and then the text was mapped to it or displaced somehow.

Very interesting Rod. I had not seen this before. Must have been a while back or I just missed it.

They could also have done painting on the man. Just saying, if gimp could render a plane to a 3d model, we might have a perfect shot.

Displace has the effect of wrapping the layer around the image you use as a map.

Nice Rod. But the original image is a body painting or something, does not seem made with photo editing software, right?

You got some pretty decent results. A little more work with shadowing and it would really take on a 3D effect. Nice work!

Very good Erisian. I did not know there was a filter Map > Displace. I'll read about it.
