From the library reference that's visible on screen, I can tell that you are not using G'MIC provided by me. I am not sure where you got this version, but it won't work with McGimp which uses all the latest libraries available and you are likely to get library conflicts. All the dynamic libraries built-in will conflict with external libraries.

If you are simply refreshing filters, no need to install G'MIC from elsewhere.

Solution: Delete G'MIC from your Library. The version I provide is 1.5.1.7.

Problem 2: Giant size - Did you add any new themes with additional libraries?

@Partha...My whole set up of gimps might have gotten messed up. I tried to clean up my desktop, messed up mcgimp, removed mcgimp and re-downloaded from the Partha site so yes it's yours, but all of a sudden, all the gimp 2.6 filters are in my mcgimp now. I moved the 2.6 folder to the desktop, but I see that in my name>library>application support there are 3 gimp folders. Gimp, gimp-2.6, and gimp 2.8 . I have only mcgimp in the mac>applications. I have not used any new themes ever. This was not a problem before, only after I took out the mcgimp from this thread and replaced it with the one from your site...because I wanted the latest gmic, lol.

Partha...Solved GMic!!! I followed your suggestion about gmic_gimp file and found that when the mcgimp grabbed all the stuff from the my name>library>app support>gimp2.6 files, it grabbed the gimp_gmic folder also. found it and trashed it, and now my mcgimp has a working gmic...I got samj's new chalk it up so it updates fine, too. This is interesting...I never had expected mcgimp to find all the 2.6 filters and such...I moved that application support folder to my desktop for now. Also, when McGimp loads up, it loads something called parasites. What is that?

NEW QUESTION...where in McGimp will I find where to save the settings?

From what I know, everything seems to be basically in the same place as before..except preferences is in the same place as you would expect it to be with other applications.....Gimp 2.8 in the menu bar up top......previously it was in the FILE sub menus I think.

This was a question 2 days ago from 2-ton as well. McGimp is truly a Mac build. So, the preference menu item is under the main Gimp-2.8 menu just like other Mac apps.

The main plugin that I use with Elements 9 is Neat Image, which I just upgraded to v7.2(pro).

Is it possible to use this plugin with McGimp?

Oops, I had clicked on the apple logo, instead of gimp, and kept getting what in windows would be called control panel! So no I have clicked the right place and I set it to save window positions now, closed gimp, opened it back up and I still get the over-long window. Then I ticked the save settings on exit and closed it...all to no avail, mcgimp still is opening up too big and I have to click the green button to shrink it. I cannot resize the window using the little lower right hand corner, either. I can only make it go narrower but not shorter. Screenshot shows how it opens up too long for the monitor. The screenshot shows all the way to the bottom of the monitor.

Skip I've been trying to learn PSE 8 and it does my head in...I much prefer GIMP...I've been having lessons for PSE 8..crikey is about all I can say. I dont know the plug in you are referring to but I am sure there will be an equivilent...are you using a Mac or a PC??

Hey, akky, thanks for the quick reply. I've got an iMac. Neat Image is a noise reduction plugin that I have been using it for about ten years. They keep improving it, which is why I just upgraded. Noise reduction is always the first thing I do when I open a photo. I see that McGimp has at least six Noise filters, and that's my problem. It will take me ages to figure when to use which. I want to open the image, hit it with NI, and move on. But I have a feeling that it isn't the sort of plugin that works with Gimp.

Neat Image is a Photoshop plugin. It will not work with Gimp. The closest equivalent I can think of is wavelet denoise which is included with McGimp. Please give it a try and let us know if it satisfies your needs.

PS: Note that coming from PSE, you will have to get used to some differences between the Apps. This would be true if you went from Gimp to PSE as well.

That is a a script fu so you may already use doesn't require any adaptment to run on mac (except be moved in a gimp script folder)

Well honestly i should do the same (read on that link and or in the commented part of the script) i know that the script should be accessible from the Help menu but even if i know that the script is installed correctly i can't find it in the menu.
(i even try to see if there is some kind of right click help menu (as in the path tool ) butno luck i believe i would never found without reading well the page i linked

Also if i remember well that script has a unusual characteristic , if renamed stop to work

I believe can be a very useful script but it is not something that you may just install and launch hoping you would be able to guess how it work, without reading the instruction is even hard guess how to call it it

BUT again may be installed with no problem in MAC as in win or linux

i think i will anyway try to modify the script registration path in Filters/ Script -Fu/ search duplicated script, that the place i prefer for a similar script , just below "refresh script"

Anisotropic Smoothing, Patch smoothing

I am assuming that this means that I do have the permissions.

different in the size...mine is 240.4 MB and yours is 258.1MB.
mine modified on 6th August and yours 13th August

Forgot to add also that I have my GIMP windows separated...I like to see whats happening under the application...LOL...

The strange thing is...Mc Gimp used to be the right size and I could also drag it larger and smaller, longer or shorter, but now I can't. I can only click the upper left green button. That does make it just barely fit, but once in a while i want it smaller than that.

The preferences are saved locally in your Gimp-2.8 folder. I was wondering if you changed something that prevents you from writing or saving to it?

Try this. open the terminal app. When it starts, type . Now start McGimp by clicking on the App. Tell me what you see in the terminal app when you Gimp starts?
