@pirate541 : It is actually useless to try saving is as a .scm script. This is not a script written in Scheme that can be run by GIMP natively. This is a G'MIC script, that can be run only by 'gmic' for now (only the command line version actually), not even the G'MIC plug-in.
I will add this effect in the plug-in soon, but it requires some additional work (determining the different controls of the filter for instance).

Sorry Pirate, when I saw your post I just thought you wanted to know how to save as a script. I should have mentioned that this wasn't an actual script for us to use. (David explained it)

And finally, here it is in the G'MIC plug-in, so you can easily render your own texts :

Just refresh your filters, and it should appear in 'Sequences/3d text pointcloud'.

Let me know if that works for you :p

It works great in mcgimp! However...is there a way for the text to be a little less "bubbly" and undone looking?

look at the one that says Thanks David...look at the D in David when it 're-assembles'. It's like parts of the D never quite reassembled on the lower left corner area. When I did it, the same thing happened, and it was a T, so it was very noticeable. It seems to happen on the second word that you enter.

The "bubbly" aspect is implicit to the generation of the 3d object. It is composed mainly of small independent blobs, so that from any point of view, it doesn't look like the text it actually contains. Only two angles will display the two strings correctly. I can hardly make it more smooth, without adding too much informations in the 3d object.

Also, there are some constraints that must be fit by the letter to assure the final 3d object will be consistent. Sometimes, these constraints can't just happen as the same times :p
I would recommend using capital letters, to reduce the amount of text artefacts.

Yes, maybe a good idea is to create first a small image (like 300x300), because the animated frames require quite a lot of memory.

Thanks, David, I will keep that in mind when picking out the texts. It is really cool, I must try some different colors!

I tried upping the smoothing, and it seems to help. This is a fun filter...is there a way to make the background transparent all at once rather than layer by layer?
