Today I learned to do 2 new things in GIMP. I knew I could do them with PSE but wanted to see if I could using GIMP. The first thing was desaturating a background bringing out the subject in colour...here is my try at it...not perfect but worked...thats the important thing.

Great progress! I always feel that if I don't learn at least one new thing, the day has been wasted. :cool

go to colour/map/colour change and you will get a kind of negative of the original pic and click on the areas you want to change colour...I just followed my nose until it happened really...but thats where I found what I was looking for which is similar to the Photoshop method but not as complicated as that

Excellent, Akky! Gimp is like that. You go in, start working on something and something pops up that you weren't aware of and, Voila!, you've learned something new ... even if it wasn't always something you really wanted to experience. Keep up the good work! :gimp

Wow! That's really good! Anyone care to share how to change colors like that? I still haven't figured it out yet. :(

ETA: Found it in replies! Lol.
