tried to get a specific gear tonight....man, that was one hell of annoying !

i wanted a gear with 12 teeth - no problem with the Shape Paths script BUT i wanted different teeth....
i didnt want them to be wider on the outside...

so i had to make it on my own
started with a rectangular selection turned into a path and then duplicating and rotating by 30° (and filling that path)

then i created some (magnetic) guides, used another rectangular selection, made a path out of it and then modified it with the path-tool

rotated the path, put a circle inside and got my custom gear

tried other techniques but these werent perfect enough, because the were tiny imperfections in the path, which gave me weird rounded angles :hoh
very annoying....

esper: you did a great job on that one! it's impressive how much thought you put down into everything you make. i suppose it would have saved you a lot of trouble if you had used one of the tuts (and thanks for posting the links, i'd tried that second one but never seen the first), but then you wouldn't have got that star pattern first - what a loss to humankind, is what i think, pattern junkie that i am :) .

lol, thank you AnMal

so funny, exactly the moment when i first saw the filled in selections and the star turned up, i thought:
oh this is totally something for AnMal and probably molly

i had a look at some of the gear tutorials before, thats why i had a vague idea how this had to be done
but you´re right, i should have refreshed my memory before

EDIT: i added the .svg file of the star, maybe somebody has a use for it

Thanks for the SVG. If you ever have svgs that you find useful, please post them - I can always use them.
