i started a new knotwork panel right after i finished my last, but it took me ages to finish it. i had an old panel in mind that i drew on paper and had printed on a tshirt for an ex boyfriend - and then lost the original :(. that panel had three eagles heads that finished the ends of the ribbons and i wanted to make something like that again. then it dawned on me that it wasn't eagles i was making, it was ravens, from one of my favourite ballads. so, here's the knotwork panel and i add an okay performance of the ballad as a soundtrack - my preferred recording is with a band called malinky, but that's not out on youtube.

Very nice, AnMal. Apparently your YouTube video won't allow it to be embedded here in Gimp Chat, so I made it a clickable URL.

Your Celtic ravens are very cool. I'm currently reading a series of alternate history novels by SM Stirling and one of the main characters is Celtic and has the Raven as his, what we would probably call, totem.

O: thanks for helping! i forgot to preview, so i totally missed that one. i wonder if ravens are somehow important in celtic mythology - i don't know enough to say, but i know there are lots of stories about ravens in scotland.
odinbc: thank you! of course it would go better with your screen name if there were just two ravens :) .

the birds are awesome !
it looks very professional on the first glance

did you make each bird on its own or is it the same raven just rotated ?

esper: thank you! you know, i was just thinking: "at first glance it looks really good, but on second glance you see some major flaws!" - obviously i wasn't alone :). i made the actual knotwork separately, then made one pair of head and wing that i rotated - i had to tweak it a bit to adjust it to the new paths, though, so maybe i didn't save as much time on it as i thought.

Gorgeous knotwork. I'm pretty sure ravens do feature quite strongly in Celtic mythology.

Anmal - this is really nice and a clever idea to use the raven image.

he4rty: thank you! i wasn't all that clever though - just had a bit of a shock when i realised the cover of the album with malinky where they do three ravens actually has a very similar design - i must have subconsciously remembered that cover. the design on the cover isn't with a knotwork panel, though, but with a triskell.

Excellent AnMal.

Now I'm going to have to go and listen to The Stranglers album The Raven.

paynekj: thanki you :)! i know it's not the right album (i think it's la folie but i never remember), but every time someone mentions the stranglers i have to go straight off and listen to "golden brown". i always do that, and usually follow it up with "sweden (all quiet on the eastern front)". did now too :).
