McGimp 2.8.2 is released. :) It's available at www.partha.com.
New to this version:
1. UFRAW to edit Camera Raw pictures.
2. "Save for Web (RIOT)"

I have removed simple-bilateral as it segfaulted on launch. If anyone knows why, please let me know.

Thanks to the beta testers!! Could not have done it without you. :tyspin

Thanks,
Partha

Excellent! Thank you very much!
This way to have the updated G'MIC version included in GIMP is very useful. For me, moreover, one of the greatest things about McGimp is that Mac users can take advantage of the Refocus-it plug in for the first time (yours is the first Mac release ever of this useful plugin, as far as I know).

Just an idea: I believe that another very useful addition could be the "Maximize local contrast" script, here:
http://registry.gimp.org/node/17151
I use it quite a lot (the first version on that page; the other new version does not work on my Mac).

Thank you!

Thanks! :) I am trying to provide a set of plugins that will be useful to photographers right "out-of-the-box" so you need not go hunting for them.

On the other hand, I am glad you went hunting since you found a nice script. I will try them out and let you know how they both work.

I love the mcgimps, and now that I changed to the default workspace, it's even better! I love finding out little nuggets of wisdom here in Gimp Chat, just by reading what others ask and answer.

I am glad you like it. :)

heh, heh, will do. Did you change up where the filter windows go? I don't remember which ones went behind and which went in front, but it seems like more go in front now. Could be just because those are the ones I am using.

Yes, I did. I used a patch from Karine. However, it's a work-in-progress. Some plugins might show in front but send the main Gimp window all the way in the back. This still requires some work. :)

Forest,

I tried out the "maximize local contrast" and you are right that the new version does not work. The older one functions just fine by copying it to your local scripts folder ~/Library/GIMP/2.8/scripts.

One thing I should point out that maximize local contrast is similar to tone mapping and if you try the "advanced Tone Mapping" script already included (Filters -> Enhance -> Advanced Tone Mapping) with the defaults which I tweaked, you should be pleasantly surprised. :)

I have just noticed a new action that I don't think happened in earlier versions. When I have another window open, such as gimp chat, and have gimp open on top of it, when I use a filter, then gimp will go behind the internet window. If I minimize the internet window, no problem but if i want it to stay open under gimp than I have to click on the gimp icon to bring gimp back the top. Not really a problem, just seems like this is something new.

It's an artifact of trying to solve the whole problem with some scripts/plugins opening behind the main window. So, you will notice that sometimes this happens. It's pretty tricky to solve this problem.

It's not much of a problem, just sort of surprised me. And as long as Gimp works otherwise, I can easily deal with it! Thanks for the explanation.

Ran across another interesting happening. I was outlining some text. I do alpha to selection, then edit>stroke selection. At first I thought it was broken because it would NOT stroke when I clicked on the stroke button, but I discovered it's just a quirk...you cannot click on the stroke button right away, you first have to click somewhere in the dialog window and then you can click on the stroke button and it works fine.

Hi Partha,

Gets better and better......thanks for your work on this.

Seems every time more windows open in front than before.

The only thing i use the old version for is a Normal Map plugin.

Are there any that are compatible for this version? I saw that the recent 2.8. Normal Map is now working in Windows.

Regards

Sam

I've found that just about all of the stuff we had before works by putting them into the usual folders but using a slightly different path to the previous versions.
