I downgraded babl and gegl to 0.1.2.
That took care of most of the freezes.
In .xsession-errors I read something disturbing:something about tiles leaking.
This probably means memory leaks.And enough of that and your system conks out.
(For those unfamiliar with memory leaks,it won't damage your hardware.)

2.7.x is unstable and from GIT ymmv - it may not even run some days depending on what was recently changed. That's why they warn people about using it for any important things.

downloaded the exe file for windows 32 and installed it tried again to compile batch files...results

I know very little of Windows.
I understand cygwin allows to "run" Linux in a Windows environment.
You'll have to use the command line interface.
Of course the tar.bz2 file has to be unpacked first.
You should be in the directory/map where this file resides.
The Linux command for unpacking is:
tar xvjf gimp-2.7.2.tar.bz2
A new directory/map is created ~/gimp-2.7.2
You should change to that directory.
In Linux the next command would be: ./configure
If that runs w/o errors then do "make".
Still no errors,then "make install".
In Linux you can tell it where you want it installed,how that's done in Windows no idea.

A few posts down is the modified script I used to get the 2.7 tarball. I found the tarballs hideously outdated so I gave up. I tried several timed to get gimp from git under windows working but never had any luck, possibly because of a sheer lack of knowledge on autotools.

That is when I switched from doing it under windows to doing it in a linux VM from GIT. The only think I'd like to add is crosscompile support so I could compile windows version of the plugins from the linux VM.

i suppose you mean "You need MingW32, and MSys installed." as far i know the use of cgwin to build gimp is discouraged because usually lead to disappointing failures.

But as you wrote build in win seems a impossible task also because all the possible guides are totally outdated

install intltool from source or the cygwin package [note: intltool needs perl's XML::Parser module, and the msys perl used for the msys automake doesn't have it. compile it first, or use the cygwin version, or install the ActiveState Perl and point the INTLTOOL_PERL environment variable at it. or something else)

I do have perl installed also so maybe we can still do this!

Downloaded it, thanks Gerard for the source link.Now i just need to install it and run the sh file again...lol =)
So i unpacked the folder to my msys/user/home folder and ran config, turns out i need active perl 5.8, so i copied the newest version (5.12.2), i have installed already into the msys/bin folder, and...ran config again.
