I just finished this one. 60% Inkscape (line drawings, item coloring), 40% GIMP (background coloring, sun gradient, and composition). Took me a few afternoons. It was fun to make!

Nice choice of colors (very pleasant for my eyes!) and the whole theme is interesting.
A quick question for you: are you using Gpick for color/palette exchange between GIMP and Inkscape?

No. I've never heard of Gpick. I picked all the colors from photos I found on Google Images except for the stark black, white, and red of the buoy which I used to make them stand out.

I, too, like to often work with Inkscape and GIMP together, especially when I need to import stylized and antialiased shapes from the former program to the latter.
Just out of curiosity, where did you find those lovely cliparts depicting animals, clouds, and so on?

I chose the items based on what one would find when walking out into the ocean. Seashells and crabs on the beach. Buoys farther out. Fish, of course. Whales in the deeper ocean. The sun on the horizon. Seagulls flying above. Clouds with stars overhead.

There are lots of whales off both the east and west US coasts. I've been on whale-watching tours in the Atlantic (off of Massachusetts) and the Pacific (off of Oregon).

I just put this design on a bunch of products in my Zazzle store. We'll see if anyone bites.

They are so well defined that I wrongly assumed they were cliparts.

Thanks, AnMal! I'm glad you like the whales. Turns out my husband doesn't like them. He suggested orcas. I think I'll do another version with orcas to see how it looks. Art's only done when you stop working on it, right?

i think it's often hard to leave off working on things - my mum used to have a painting of a bucket of apples on a chair that she went back and made changes to a couple of times every year for almost fifteen years .

Great idea....I have downloaded the latest version for all platforms from sourceforce but the installer is a nsi file. My OS is windows 7...can anybody tell me how to install this? Thanks

I was checking through Google for info on nsi extensions and it has lots of links that might help. Here is one. NSI
