My Move tool is acting up [SOLVED]

OS Version: Linux Fedora 17
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

strange Icon for move tool

I was trying to make the word Gimp on 4 separate layers and 3D each of them separately. I used the rotator tool to off set some of the letters. When I slanted the "I", I got a strange icon with the move tool and I couldn't move it down. In the screen below shows what it looks like.
Question: Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Your screenshot shows the "G" as the selected layer. The Move tool won't work on the "I" layer until you select it. One of those duh things, sorry. :mrgreen:

my guess is that you are in the wrong mode

O Gawd, how stupid can I get. I didn't even see that...I must have clicked that without knowing. Thank you Rich for saving me from pulling out more hair. :oops:

@Drac, No I didn't have it on the G when I was trying it. I had it there cuz I was trying all the letters and none of them would move. :teeth

Just glad you got it fixed. I changed my default a long time ago on the move tool options because it became so annoying. I had totally forgotten about it. Nice catch Rich.

Where did you go to change the default Drac? I also find it annoying.

Set the tool options the way you want and go to Edit>Preferences>Tool Options, then click the "Save Tool Options Now" button near the top of the dialog.
