Just joined.
What version of GIMP should I be using for Mac 10.8.2 and where can I download it?
Once that is done the real questions will start.

Welcome to Gimp Chat Bredies. We do have some Mac users here so I will leave that question for them. It might be from Partha's place...not sure. I do see a Mac download on his page which I think they use. http://www.partha.com/

Hi Odinbc
Thanks for the welcome and the links to previous topics.
Obviously you are all far more advanced users of GIMP than me.
I guess I need to find out where Point A is as these references are all way out of my league at this stage.
I need square one as a starting point.
in the meanwhile I shall surf around and see if anything makes sense.
Cheers

I recommend the newest "mcgimp" 2.8 download from Partha's place. It has G'mic and some other popular plug-ins already included. It is what most of us macophiles here use.

Thanks all. will check all these resources and try not to bother unnecessarily. I seem to be making some headway through sheer luck but I will take it.
Thanks for all your help but don't think I won't be back.

Don't worry about bothering anyone and start asking lots and lots of 'dumb' questions. Lots of friendly people here willing to help. We have all been beginners at some time and most of us remember what it was like. Welcome to Gimp Chat!

OK I give up at this stage. The tutorials on this page http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/The_Basics/ not easy to follow for a newbie.
So I need to find you tube videos or something to follow with my eyes instead of banging my head against the keyboard.

Thanks molly. I'll head over there now.
I can't even seem to add simple text and battling to work my way around the layers.
All I need is a background image with 3 (maximum 4) additional layers all with some text in them.
How difficult can that be?
Obviously more than I first thought.
Thanks for your help

Which version of Gimp are you using. There are some very good Tutorials on Gimp-2.8. I can find them and post them.

This is the one I did on the text somewhere in this forum.
