I use the bevel script a lot and I would appreciate if someone can explain the keep bump layer - work on copy choices. If I click one it puts the bevel into another window and I have to keep renaming them.
I have started to use just the keep bump layer and it stays in the same window but it adds a black layer to the stack....

The question is: should I tick both options OR one of the other two..... :(

If you keep the bumpmap all you have is a copy of the bumpmap. Not sure what you'd use it for; interesting that it's black with white instead of the other way around.

Uncheck Work on Copy and it doesn't make another image. If you don't like your results, you can Undo and run the filter again and change the bevel setting without having extra copies all over your desktop. :gaah

The bevel filter Molly is talking about is in Filters > Decor > Bevel.

The Bevel & Emboss filter is in Script-Fu > Layer Effects.

Try typing some text in a color and explore the differences in the different choices in the Styles.

If you run the pillow emboss twice it will give you this effect around the edges. Run it and check up the first time then down the second time you run it.
