Hi

I am Polly and finally, finally I am starting to make progress with graphics apps.

I should explain - over the past 15 years I have had a strong interest in computer and have taken a pride in being able to move between applications or suites without too much difficulty, whether is spreadsheet, presentation, music tabbing, emailing, websites, phpBB...broadly I solve my own problems (with help from support sites) and I have learned a lot over that time.

But the one area I could never get a handle was graphics. Layers, paths, bezier curves...it all went straight over my head. Until recently when I daughter wanted a logo for her start up chilli business. It took me three days to draw a cartoon chilli.

So now I am all fired up and wanting to learn more...and yeah, I have run into a problem!! (I will post about that in the right place though.)

Anyways, that's me. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Polly

Howdy do, yourself! :)

And...I ought to let you know that I was a good girl and did a search before posting my problem, which was to with Wacom Bamboo Pen which I couldn't get working at all. So that means that the post I promised you won't be appearing, but I am sure another will come along in a while.

In particular, there was a tip about Gimp not seeing the tablet and suggested using the pen to launch Gimp - success!

And going into Preferences and making sure it is enabled - success!

Polly is a happy bunny! :)

Hi Polly !

You sound like a good addition to our happy chat.
From your first post it seems you are a great autodidact and from your second, that you know how to help your self.
That is excellent !

Gimp is not that hard to learn its just complex, because there is so much to learn.
But you can start with pretty simple things and still have a lot of fun.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Welcome to GC Polly. Practice is the best way to learn and we have lots of tutorials in the tutorial section that will help you do just that. It was me who wrote about using the pen to launch Gimp because I used to have that problem myself and my brain threw a wild idea at me that I could maybe force Gimp to register the pen by opening it with the pen instead of the mouse. Glad it was useful to you. :)
