i'm not giving up with my alphabet! i've had practically no gimping time for the past few days, but before i got so busy i finally managed (after lots of time consuming experimenting) to make something with an iridescent effect. and i was always supposed to be for "iridescent", so this meant oi could finally get to work on the i. i finished it today, in what seems like no time at all compared to all the time i have spent trying out different ways to make iridescent.

i can imagine how tough it is to get it right
i have no idea how i would try (and surely fail)

the colors look all spot on, but i feel it lacks gloss
or does iridescent mean something else ??

the rest is the usual AnMal quality
great composition
lots of little detail with the 'how did she do that' effect
style trademark all over !

esper: thank you! actually i'm less happy with this now than i was when i'd first finished it. but i'm happy with the background pattern, the stars/flowers and the big "i", it's the "iridescent" text i'm not happy with and i think that one would benefit from a bit of gloss.
generally, iridescent objects tend to be glossy but gloss isn't necessary for iridescence.

odinbc: thank you! no, you didn't miss f because for some reason f seems impossible to make . and you didn't miss h either, it was the first letter i made and i know you saw it.

k1tesseraena: thanks, brother! i don't know if you saw the g, but i'm quite sure you commented on the h - it's a bit confusing because h was the first letter i made.

erisian: thank you! you should have some small credit for giving me your honest opinion on the background pattern - consider it given.

iridescent is shiny and sparkly...but I have no idea how you can add sparkle to it without it looking too glittery. Is there a script called plastic wrap that would add high shine? I think I used to have it, but it's not in my current scripts on my new mcgimp.

2-ton: hmm, seems we have learned different definitions of iridescent - i've learned that iridescence is a colour shift effect. you usually get it on with shimmering, sparkly or glossy surfaces, but unpolished titanium is matte and often gives the effect i think of as iridescent.
i have a plastic wrap script and i also have graechan's plastic or glass script, which could also be used to get gloss. i think i'll try them both, thanks 2-ton !

(oh, and please try making something iridescent yourself and show esper how it's done . he made a challenge of it but i don't think he's tried the plastic wrap script.)

In G'MIC>Contours there is a filter similar to plastic wrap but I can't remember what it is called.

erisian: i think you mean "relief light" - sometimes the results of that looks exactly like the results of the plastic wrap filter.
as it happens, none of the two filters would have been of any use in my picture because they both build on adding white highlights and my picture is full of white already. i added a bevel with a slight tint and a glass curve on the text instead and that made me happy .
