even though I have been using Gimp for ten years I will never be able to do what I would like to with it. I come in nearly every day, just to see what others have done and it really astounds me what some people are able to do.
Even though I have been able to sketch with a pencil (manually) & draw with pastels I can't with the Gimp so do mostly text with it. I have done a couple of logos with it too but for people who have no idea how I did it.

So AnMal I am around, just don't feel I have anything to contribute.

Thanks esper. But I cannot take any glory for the text or for filters, they are still not my work.

sallyanne, 98% of my artwork is filters. lol
Do not feel bad about this.It is still a creative way to make your artwork.Throwing 2 or 3 filters together will normally give one of us an idea for a script.So keep playing with those filters and show us your results.

I'm with Rod Sallyanne; if it weren't for filters, you wouldn't see much of me here either. Get G'MIC, and Mathmap and make sure Python is installed with your GIMP and you can then have some fun.

sallyanne: that's sad to hear - i really think all of us here have something to contribute and you should definitely not have to feel like that! i really suck at painting in gimp - though i'm getting a little better with practice (so hard to keep practising when you feel you're no good at something though!) - so i make most of my stuff with filters too and there's nothing wrong with that! nothing wrong with doing mainly text either, though of course it's always fun to try text effects on things other than text too, like paisleys... i digress . the main point is this: nice to know you're around, please don't stop posting your stuff altogether, and don't forget to have fun with whatever you make in gimp.

I suggest a multi-media experiment. Create something in the real world using the tools you're comfortable with, then scan/photograph it and try manipulating the digitised version in GIMP - basically use the strengths of each media to your advantage.

That's like saying my paintings are all Wacom and Gimp and I can't take credit for them. In order to learn something you don't need to fight with it, you just need to enjoy it. (all you need is love!) We're all at different talent levels and we all help each other. We all like to see each others contributions however "small". Just have fun and post your stuff here - it's that easy.
