seven months ago, i tried to make a logo with Gimp
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5128&p=64015

Image

currently im again trying to get better with Inkscape, so gave it a go

got the rounded rectangles arranged in a triangle but now i want to create the outline and im struggling with it

Image

tried it with the bezier tool and snapping but that is really difficult to get right and doesnt scale well it seems
is there a better way of doing it ?

Group all the rectangles first and do an object to path. Then just create a empty square around all the grouped rectangles and add nodes where you need to reshape to your desired logo.I would turn on snap to path also for exact shaping.

Even better draw the image in Gimp and trace the image in Inkscape. :)

esper: i don't know what you mean by crude here? i always thought inkscape did this kind of thing very elegantly. but i haven't tried to do this particular thing, and i'm nowhere near perfectionist, so perhaps that's why.

Hi, Esper!
Actually, it's easier than it seems.

I made diagonal guides and used bezier tool toggling between snapping to guides and paths.
Nodes should be smoothed out (button in the edit panel of the path editor tool)
Looks pretty smooth to me.

not sure if crude is the right word, but everything in IS seems so precise, and my weak tries of getting the nodes in a perfect way around the shape, dont look smooth and nice :\

buuuuut here comes the mighty K1te with great advice !
thank you K1te, will try after taking a shower

i still found this difficult, but i have way too little experience

when i lay in bed i got another idea:
why not just arrange the rectangles in a triangle and then cut off the tips and make a union with the shape ?

that worked and was easier for me
