Hello Gimpchat,

I have an issue with Gimp (2.8.4 / Windows 7 32bit), there were few weeks that I didn't done this but since yesterday I can't open all pdf file with Gimp.
I have this error message each time I try to open any pdf file.



Is someone has the same problem ?
I have already reinstalled completely Gimp but the problem is still there.

I just opened a pdf from my desktop and it opened fine in Gimp. I also have gimp-2.8.4 and mine is 64 bit and I use Fedora16 but I don't think that would change anything.

This will happen if you have duplicates of the same DLL file in Gimps path.OR no DLL file by that name in Gimps BIN folder.

Rod, is right about duplicate DLL's (user plugins folder and Gimp bin) can be a problem. The libstdc++-6.dll is a tough one. G'MIC seems to require it to be in the user plugin folder and the PDF importer seems to require it to be in the bin folder. Although I try to not have duplicate DLL's in Gimp, I have libstdc++-6.dll in both the user plugin folder and Gimp 2 bin folder without errors or issues. I'm using Gimp 2.8.4 with Vista 32. Just info for you if you can use it.

Normally on gimp install a PATH is created to your environment variable.This is usually $PATH$/gimp-2.VERSION/bin.
The path is to the bin folder because that is where gimp looks for DLL files.
If you have GMIC installed and you have 1 of these DLL files in your plug-ins folder AND 1 in the bin folder, try renaming the one in the plug-ins folder and see if gimp and GMIC work.You will know on load if GMIC loads or initializes because you will get the GMIC will not start error on gimp start up.If GMIC doesn't load but export or open PDF does, try moving the gmic plugin or EXECUTE file to the C:/program files/gimp-2.YOURVERSION/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins folder and restart gimp again.

Thanks for your replies, but after many tests and combinations between these both dll and folders, I still have the same issue.
I have also desinstalled GMIC but without succes ....
I think that the problem has appeared after my update in 2.8.4 last week.
I'm not alone with this issue, Dinasset has encountered the same bug with the version 2.8.4

I despair, I really need to be able to open a PDF file for a professional project, I'm not sure how to solve this problem.

You could pull your C:\My Program files\gimp.2.8.4 folder out into your desktop so all your filters..plugins will be saved, delete all of your Gimp-2.8.4 and re-install 2.8.2. That way, when the next version is available, you could then upgrade.

You should not have to remove GMIC altogether.
I am running Gimp-2.7.4 (Parthas Install - partha.com).
I believe Partha included GMIC and Ghostscript with his install.I trust his installs immensely.If you didn't get your install from him try his version.
Have you installed Ghost Script?
