Hey!

I used G'MIC quite a while ago and was really impressed by the Graphic Novel FX effect. In the newest version I installed on Linux, I couldn't find it anymore. Is it discontinued and if yes, is there a way to get an old version?

Thanks alot!

Michael

Welcome to GC. I use Windows and I'm pretty sure it's still there. Some stuff has been rearranged in later versions of G'MIC. Have you refreshed your filters lately?

thanks for the fast reply! I had this issue with a previous installation as well, both were fresh, the other time I installed it as a plugin file, now via the terminal using the repositories.

I searched in all the categories and can't find it, everything else seems to be there.

What version have you got? Have you updated the filters? I have 467 filters. See below

Hi telegott.
The complete list of G'MIC filters is available here :

http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp_filters.txt

And I can see 'Graphic Novel' in 'Artistic /'.
Not sure about your G'MIC version, as you don't have many filters (265, instead of 460+).
Maybe you should update to latest version (1.5.5.1), to be sure to get all of them. The packages provided by default with your distro are probably too old (it's the case for Debian and Ubuntu packages if you don't use a PPA).

Thanks for all your replies, your support is awesome!

I currently use Mint 14 which bases on Ubuntu 12, and I am using the repositories, not the packages. How can I update the filters? I just uninstalled and reinstalled G'MIC, without any effect

@telegott : Just go to : http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml
and download the .zip file for your architecture (either 32bits or 64bits), and copy the compressed file 'gmic_gimp' in '/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/' (that should replace the old one).

This has been fixed. Thanks.

EDIT : This randomly renders a blank page, as I'm currently working on a new version of G'MIC. Sorry about that. That will be fixed soon.

Hey, one last question. Gmic doesn't save the filters it found during updating, I have to update every single time I open Gimp or a new image. Is there a way around that?

Hi telegott, I'm using Windows and that is not a problem I have come across.
I'm sure someone will have the answer for you soon. :)

Strangely enough, Graphic Novel shows up in my G'MIC but doesn't show a preview and doesn't work. I've downloaded it and will try re-installing it.

Brilliant for turning photographs into pictures for books.
However mine is just called 'graphic novel' - not 'graphic novel FX'
Is FX a Linux thing?
