Hi,

New member here, preparing for the split from Adobe software use. I've paid Adobe £100's over the years, but no longer!
Oh, I'm in the Midlands UK, a pro photographer, (on a street cleaners money), and have been a photographer on & off for 40 years, (yes, I'm old!! :hehe )

Regards,

LJLC

:welcome to the site. There are lots of great filters at your disposal in GIMP.:snap

..and when compared to PhotoShop, some limitations, as well.

Welcome to Gimp Chat. I'm sure you'll get the hang of things if you stay with us. I haven't got a link but on Youtube, Gimptricks has two videos on setting gimp up to look and behave like PS. With 2.8, things might be a little different but the principle is the same.

Thank you very much for the welcome.
I'm really quite excited about taking on the "use Gimp professionally" challenge I've set my self.
Of course I still own CS6 and will use it when stuck, and I'll use the ACR raw converter too. I hope though, that within 12 months I shall have left Adobe completely.
I look forward to learning here and maybe even contributing something useful at some future point.
:-)

40 isn't old here, it's average. we have some whippersnappers to but I think we geezers outnumber them.

Hello again, and once again thank you for the welcome messages.

I'm running Gimp 2.8 on Windows 8, (which I'm not fond of...)

No... I'm not 40. I wish I were! I've been photographing for 40 years.....

You should be able to post images and use your profile after 3 posts so, you should be all set. :bigthup

You can keep track of all the latest (un-official) builds here.
http://www.partha.com - These are excellent builds. You will find (MOST) Windows version builds for 64 and 32 bit. :)
There is even a newer Gimp-2.9 with 16, and 32 bit color depth but it is in the testing phase right now.

Delaboratory is also available there. More info here - viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1873
Delaboratory is a Free Software color correction utility that will export to Gimp-2.8.

I'm a bit nervous of trying 2.9, but I'm really grateful to you for calling my attention to it.

Many thanks indeed!!! :coolthup

A big welcome young person (Didn't catch the gender; yes, I too have you beat by several years; lol). If you need to have access to your PS plugins, make sure you have python support installed and have shellout.py in your plugin folders so that you can launch programs like XNView or Irfanview that support PS plugins. Not all plugins still will work, but more then most will. If you use Partha's build, I believe he includes all that in his compile. :)

I believe python support is auto installed now with versions after Gimp-2.6.12.
I have gotten many 8BF plug-ins to work with just PSPI for Gimp. in Gimp-2.8.4. :)

I still can't get pspi to work, I get this error:

But after I close that 4 or 5 times it seems to work.

Amendment,
After I deleted two Mehdi filters it works now. I wonder if it will work with gimp portable?

GMS, Mehdi just upgraded most of the filters on the website.I would try again. This time delete the dll files that come with any of them.If you get that DLL file error again, look to see if that DLL file is in your Windows/System32 folder. If it is then check to see if there isn't another one in the plugins folder or Gimps path.

To get PSPI to run in portable Gimp-2.8.4 you need to contact Partha and ask for his special gimprun.exe replacement file which creates a pspirc file. That was the only problem i had running PSPI in portable GMS.
