Back from a quite stressing and delusive travel with a broken laptop..

The problem is the screen , that is just broken and seems that replace would be too pricey

Now i have a nice screen , orphan from a dead desktop and i remember my laptop allow to use a external screen ... alas first the laptop has not a plug adapt to the jack of the monitor, i may hope there is some kind of adapter but i am not sure

And the second but maybe bigger problem ... how i could give the necessary command if no screen is working and i can't see a thing ?

Any idea or tip ?

Are you sure the laptop doesn't have a VGA connector PC? Even my decades old laptop comes with a VGA interface. You can probably get a VGA to DVI or VGA to HDMI adaptor for little expense. Not sure what type of connector your spare monitor uses but it either uses VGA, DVI or HDMI (if sufficently old, I doubt HDMI since that's only a few years old now).

I was wondering where you got to PC
As lyle says - I'd guess a DVI to VGA or vice versa might be what you need... but maybe your laptop is HDMI or even "DisplayPort"

Most laptops have an option on the keyboard to allow switching between the internal display and an external display. It's usually associated with the FN key that laptops use for special functions. Additionally, some laptops will recognize and activate the external display automatically, when it's plugged in.

The screen has a big ,old looking one ,with 2 screws at the side to tight it well

Here is a shot of the 15 pin VGA plug and socket. I will be surprised if your monitor does not have one of these.

Very probably, your TV has one as well.

It has been a while since I connected a laptop to a monitor but from memory, have everything connected before powering up the laptop. There is usually a function key to press to toggle between monitor and laptop screen. If possible RTFM.

Of course, always the possibility that there is a bios setting to enable, in which case you are screwed because you will not be able to see the bios settings.

Check your laptop manual. I had a laptop with a broken screen, and I needed to hold down certain keys while booting for it to use the external monitor. If you no longer have the manual, it is probably easy to find online. It would also tell you what connectors you have and any adapters that would be needed for various monitors.

On all laptops I've used with an external monitor or projector it seems Function-F7 is some sort of standard way to switch the screen output.

I second all of that. Hope you get your problem fixed soon so we can see more.

The pragmatic in me says that the end result won't be a working laptop but an underpowered desktop.

An alternative solution is to find a second-hand machine of the same era, or the same machine with a working screen and transplant things form one to the other.
