I guess I could have made this my first post. Been GIMPin' for a few years now. Love the program, and have a lot of fun with it. I live in central Illinois, and have all my life. I'm 49, and married, with 6 kids. Nope, not a typo, haha.

Thanks guys. My sig is a take on a tut I found some time back, with my own twist.

I'm actually laid off right now. My wife just lost her job of nearly 22 years. We know the deal, she's getting at retirement age, so she got canned. Lost our insurance and everything. We're taking them to court. Not about the money, just what's right. They told her she wasn't performing well enough. Apparently takes them 21 years to figure it out. We just started remodeling our kitchen too. That's been quite the chore, especially doing it myself. I'm in the process of stripping the whole kitchen. We live in a house that's over 100 years old. I'm talking new floor joists, floor, linoleum, electrical, painting, cabinets, replacing a door with a window, everything. Been having a lot on my mind here lately.

Hey there Warrior, we have a lot in common. I'm 49 live in Illinois but have only two kids who are going to be out of school for the summer starting tomorrow.

My step son is home for the summer from college. He's a good kid, but, I must say, it's been a big adjustment having him back, haha.

100 year old houses are fun. Mine was built in 1910. I wonder if it'll need floor work eventually. Some of them are dipping an inch.

We found termites when we started taking the floor apart. Part of the floor was built over a slab. Obviously an add on from another time. The floor is 3 inches thick, where there was an inch floor, a new inch thick floor over it, and yet another. Thank God for Sawzalls, haha.

Given enough time, there wouldn't be any height left in the room!

The previous owners here completely gutted the house and rebuilt it, so I don't have anything like that. The only problem was that, at some point, there were termites and part of the house sunk an inch. The people that remodelled it didn't jack it back up, they just put new drywall up on the slightly imperfect walls. It's one of those things nobody would notice unless they looked very close - and of course, it can't be fixed without cracking the nice, new walls.

I'm going to have to do some creative drywalling myself. There's nothing ever square in an old house. Pretty much everything has to be special cut.

Hi there, warrior. Sounds like you've got your hands full with all the renovation work. I'm another one with a hundred year old property. Already had to change some of the floor joist and plates they they sit on, plus some plastering to walls and ceilings. Lucky I guess though as I've always worked in the building trade so I can do most things myself.

Hello, thanks for the welcome, appreciate it. I'm no carpenter by any means, but, not helpless either. A lot of it is just common sense, and the willingness to get in there and do it. My brother is the carpenter of the family. I've learned much from him. What I can't do, or figure out, he comes over and helps me with, so it works out pretty good.
