Yes, it does work with gimp 2.6.
Where did you install the plugin binary ?

in the normal place. The one I've been putting all of my plugins for years

/home/cecilia/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins

Did you check that your binary has the exec permission flag ?
Also, try to run your binary from a console, if there are any missing libraries you need, it will tell you which one.

I always check that and yes, permissions ON

I'm not really sure how to do that

I assume the version you downloaded is gmic_gimp_1.5.6.0_linux32.zip?

This might be what Rononours means - if you can open a terminal, then type:

cd ~/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins
./gmic_gimp

It should either complain about libraries or say it has to be run from gimp.
You can also run gimp itself from command line (gimp --verbose) but I'm not sure if it will say anything about the gmic plugin.

by the way, I did notice that within the zip file the file is called "gmic" and not "gmic_gimp". I did rename it on at least one of my attempts to use it and I'm not sure that makes any difference.
Just an FYI

When I finish what I'm doing I'll try the commands and see what is revealed.
thanks

after typing this (and I did this after I renamed the file to gmic_gimp):
cecilia@Asimov:~/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins$ ./gmic_gimp

all I get is:
[gmic] No commands, options or data provided (type 'gmic_gimp -h' to get help).

Ah! So that's not the gimp plugin, it's the command line gmic. Well that explains why it's not showing in gimp at least... what we don't know is how it ended up in the wrong zip file. Hopefully whoever uploads that file will check.

I've checked and the file 'gmic_gimp_1.5.6.0_linux32.zip' contains a single file 'gmic_gimp' corresponding to the plugin binary.

Yup it seems OK to me, as does the gmic_gimp_linux32.zip file. @Cecilia is it possible you have a file named "gmic_static_" instead of the gimp one? Anyway I think it might be worth downloading this version:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmic/files/gmic_gimp_1.5.6.0_linux32.zip/download

Yes, maybe cecilia has downloaded the 'static' version of the command line tool instead.

I didn't need to tell this one where to install. Was a complete process for the last one 1.5.5.2.
This one knew and I installed it very quickly. Not check all the extra filters yet. I am guessing there are a lot. My filter #'s when refreshed jumped dramatically.
