This is an image in my "... of trolls" as well as my "Closeup ..." series. It will also double as a birthday card. :) I'm putting it up for feedback before sending it off.

Krita, some GIMP.

UPDATE: Made her smile smilier and changed the direction of the hair.

THE TROLL GIRL!! :D :D

I think this is very nice, the only 2 things I see is, I don't quite see how the 2 earrings on the tip of her ear are attached, maybe from the inside? Also her facial expression seems a bit odd, and for a card I'd think she should look happy! But her mouth says aggravated or displeased and her eye say wheeeeeee presents!

The texture on her skin is amazing (especially on the ear) and I love that hair! :D
Nice work! :D

griatch: i love this! looks like it would make a really good card too. i don't agree with mokonafan about the expression, it looks like she's been caught by a camera while she's laughing or talking about something that makes her happy :). her hair is so beautifully painted and i do realise she has big hair (at least the troll girl i've seen before in pictures by you has big hair), but i still wonder if her head is a little too big around the top - i would have expected the hair strands in the top left corner of the picture to come from a slightly different angle.

Her mouth seems cheery to me. I don't think there's anything off about the expression at all. Looks good! Great job on the skin detail!

I think there's a rather odd highlight in her hair, near the bottom and about 10% right of middle... where a few strands overlap.

She looks so happy. This is a pretty cool picture. I like that her ear looks like a jalapeno pepper. (That's a good thing, I love peppers.)

Despite others saying that the smile looks ok, I agree with you on this; there was something slightly reserved about the smile. It took me a fair amount of time to tweak this around until I got to this point, using a wider mouth and more exaggeratedly raised corners. At least to me this feels more like a happy-smile now.
I did intend the earrings to be mounted insider the ear, but they could just as well be attached to the ridge so I added that for clarity, thanks!

Yes, it's the same troll-girl. She does have a very large amount of hair but you are right that the direction of hair could make her head look bigger than it is. I changed it now, thanks!

I had to look a bit to see what you mean, I think you refer to the brightening effect that happened when happening to cross several strands with less than 100% opacity. Fixed that now, thanks!

Thanks again, people, great feedback. :D

@Erisian: Thankyou!
Training on adding character is one of the reasons I repeat the same characters in various circumstances and styles; it's one thing to create a new character that noone has seen before - beyond anatomical errors noone then knows how that character is "supposed" to be. It's an interesting challenge to try to portray the same character and have people actually recognize them as the same.
... Admittedly it's not too hard to make this particular character recognizable, being green of skin. ;)

I keep looking at her eye lashes and wondering why there isn't any more detail.Also inside the mouth needs something. They both just seem dark and plain.
As always though the texture, and lighting is phenomenal. I could just reach out and pull her ear and feel the texture of it. Very amazing work Griatch. Someone is going to get a very nice B-Day card.

@Rod
It's a good point about the eyelash and the darkness of mouth. I aimed for those to be extra-clear, but I can see why they would come across as somewhat deviating from the style of the rest of the face. I'm not sure I'm going to change it at this point (the birthday card is away now), but it's probably worth experimenting with different ways to make those features in the future. Thanks!

Since the Birthday celebration this card was for is here, the image has "officially" gone up on DeviantArt now; so adding the full link.
