GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Internet explorer 11

List any ERROR messages you received:
webpage not responding
Internet stopped

At first I just noticed with GimcChat and Gimp Learn that when I tried to post that I did not have time to do the message and attachments before the page would freeze and I would get a message about non responding, web page timed out or internet stopped abruptly. Now on most sites that I visit. Very hard to surf or post on any site. Internet site stated to refresh, not help; clear browser cache, not help.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this? and what to do about it?

Often when I have conectivaty issues.
I flush my DNS Cache.

To Flush your DNS cache,
perform the following steps:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
Type the following command:

ipconfig /flushdns

If the command succeeds,
the system returns the following message:

Windows IP configuration successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Thank you, Wallace. I did as you instructed and got the correct message. Now I'll use the net and see if it was corrected.

Of course this is not a 100% fix,
if there is some other issue with your connection.

It's only something which has worked for me in the past
.

It didn't help. I thought it did for about 1/2 hour then started again and I have not been able to post as it keeps saying web page timed out.

I found this when I searched this issue. See if any of this helps.

This issue might occur if the Internet Explorer settings are set incorrectly of if the system files associated with Internet Explorer are not working properly.
Let us follow these methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1.
To start with you may close all windows and restart the computer once to check if this helps.
Further, you may run the Internet Explorer performance troubleshooter.
- Press the ‘Windows key + W’ key on the keyboard.
- Type Troubleshooter in the Search box and then press Enter.
- Select Troubleshooting. Click on View All and select Internet Explorer Performance.
- Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Method 2.
Open Internet Explorer in no-add-ons mode and check if you’re able to load the websites.
- Press the ‘Windows key +R’ key on the keyboard.
- In the Run window type ‘iexplore –extoff’ and click ‘OK’.
- Now try to open the websites to check if you’re able to load the websites.
If the issue doesn't persists, then it is sure that add-ons was the reason for this issue.

You can try the steps provided to enable add-ons individually to determine which of the add-ons may be causing the problem.

a) Open Internet Explorer on desktop.
b) Click the Tools button, click Manage add-ons, and then click Enable or disable Add-ons
c) In the show list, click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer to display all add-ons.
d) Click the Add-ons you want to enable, and then select Enable.
e) Repeat step (d) for every add-on you want to enable.

For troubleshooting steps on Manage add-ons please refer to this link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/inte ... s#ie=ie-11

Method 3.
You can try to reset Internet Explorer settings to default and check if this helps.
- Press “Windows key + R” to get the run window.
- Type “inetcpl.cpl” and click ok to get the “Internet Options” window.
- Click the “Advanced” tab and click “reset”.

Disclaimer: The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might reset security settings or privacy settings that you added to the list of Trusted Sites. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature might also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature.

Try a different web browser ie;
FireFox, Chrome, Opera, Edge etc.

Using another web browser,
can tell you if it's more of a browser issue,
or perhaps more of an issue with your system.

We don't even know if the OP is using IE... Other useful things to state here, because there are many points of failure:

1) OS and version
2) Browser used and version
3) Connection between PC and the router/modem (wifi, direct ethernet, ethernet via PLC plugs...)
4) Connection of router/modem to Internet (ADSL, fiber, coax....)
5) Country and ISP

When Internet stops abruptly, can you still
1) open another tab on some general site (Google.com, facebook, wikipedia)
2) "ping" some external site
3) ping your local router/modem
4) use Internet from some other device conected to the same router (for instance a smartphone using local Wifi)

Wallace: I tried some of the suggestions posted by PhotoMaster and ofnuts then I realized that when you showed your screenshot for flush the DNS cache, I was not into the Windows systems 32 directory. So I tried it again in the correct directory and so far I have not had any problems. Thank all of you for your help and suggestions.

No problem Pat625.

I can't say for sure,
that the "flush DNS cache" command did not work,
when you ran it in the unelevated state.
I've never run this command without using an elevated cmd.

However,
you did received the correct response after entering the command.
Otherwise,
I think... it would have given an error response.
:puzzled

By default,
when opening Command Prompt/cmd,
you will not have full rights and not all commands will work.
This mode helps protect Windows users,
or running commands that may compromise the system.
To perform some commands,
you must run command prompt as administrator.

Below is a screenshot of both my cmd dialog's.
The difference in the dialog's very noticeable.
One of the biggest differences is the word administrator,
which can be seen at the top of the dialog.
I've also changed my admin cmd,
to look much different.

I'm now thinking,
that this issue may have been caused by your ISP.

Which would generally mean,
that no matter what you would've done,
nothing would have worked to fix the issue.

Thanks for the info, Wallace. I'm not having the problem since I followed your suggestion correctly. I hope it does not return!
