I had to go get the original source code and compile it myself. The pre-built didn't work for me in 64-bit Linux for some reason. Make sure you have the libsuitesparce-dev library installed.

make
make install
It was put right into the plug-ins directory, and the plug-in appears at the bottom of the color menu as Colorization.
Followed exactly as above and compiled and there is a 'Colorization' submenu under 'Colors' menu, too. But it pops up the a range of errors as shown in the screenshot. :-(
Installed on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, Gimp-2.6.8 (downgraded from 2.6.11 to install libgimp2.0-dev package- a requirement to compile the plugin as the latter is not available neither in the getdeb nor webupd8 repository).
