Colorization Plug-in (Not to be confused with Colorize)

I used an RGB pic,opened a new layer,brushed over it,then colorized the original layer.It worked ,except that it also kept the brush lines i made on the new layer.
Did i miss a step?

HI All

I don't know why but when i try to add brown ,it only gives me pink
Any ideas why?

Pirate, can you provide the xcf file of your pink result? I realize this is like 2 months too late, but if you still have it, please share it so we can get you sorted out.

unpack it into its own directory, open a terminal in the source directory, then

It was put right into the plug-ins directory, and the plug-in appears at the bottom of the color menu as Colorization.

Followed exactly as above and compiled and there is a 'Colorization' submenu under 'Colors' menu, too. But it pops up the a range of errors as shown in the screenshot. :-(

Installed on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, Gimp-2.6.8 (downgraded from 2.6.11 to install libgimp2.0-dev package- a requirement to compile the plugin as the latter is not available neither in the getdeb nor webupd8 repository).

You need to have a 2 layers to run the plugin zenny.

One is your image the other is a transparent layer on top with your color lines

I just added that plug-in Rod but I haven't tried it yet. It is under colors isn't it? map > sample colorize?

This is how you use it
Open any image black and white or colored.
Desaturate it with luminosity
create a transparent layer above it
color the areas the colors you want in the transparent layer
select the original image
run the plugin
Colors>Colorization

Note that the mask image above has the original under it already colorized - so you can see it.You only need to mark the areas with small lines of color.

Here is a bit better view of just the mask itself.

By the way this is in Gimp-2.7.4 so it works fine in both versions Gimp-2.6.11, and Gimp-2.7.4

I still haven't found it Rod. I installed a plug-in called colorize.exe. Is that the correct one? Maybe that is something else.

Yes that is the name of the plugin.

strange that it doesn't show under colors. I will reboot gimp again to see what happens. I added it to 2.6 and 2.7

edit: nope, still not there. this is where I have it. C:\Users\Molly\.gimp-2.0\plug-ins

This time i picked the colors of the original image for the mask...except the brown.

I am getting better.
