Searching for converters on google is always tragic because it seems like 99.6254631% of the hits are scams. I wonder why converter searches seem to draw out the scammers but anyway... I got tired of searching so I decided to ask here, does anyone know of a decent vector format convert? it seems like a lot of the vector images online are in EPS format and Inkscape won't read them. I tried the converter Inkscape offers but it doesn't always work and I'd like to do them in batch.

I use this one - http://vectormagic.com/home
Did you know InkScape has embedded Potrace into Inkscape now.

Some InkScape instructions -

ConversionSVG

ConversionSVG is a GUI that send command line to Inkscape to export in batch SVG to PNG, PS, PDF or EPS. It features a Wizard to help novice to use it. You can choose a size in pixels for your export and give some others parameters.

I knew about potrace and think it's worth it's weight in anything. It's lightyears ahead of xara . Conversion SVG works on one of my computers but not the other three, i wonder if it's a python issue. I don't want to convert raster to vector thogh, i want to convert between vector formats.

I guess i need to figure out why conversionSVG doesn't work on my laptop.

Why you don't try with Scribus ?
BTW if you get OpenOffice also OO "Draw" may be used for convertion

(OpenOffice may be a overkill if you use only to convert, anyway is a excellent alternative to Office )

yes i get it!

..scribus support both formats so should be handy to convert
Same for OpenOffice Draw

Only other solution i may imagine is use PDF as intermediate format (Eps to PDF, then PDF to SVG ) but seems more complex

This program looks interesting. It imports pngs.jpgs, and converts to svg. =)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... ctor.shtml

I am downloading this myself.
I downloaded it and started it with Java.It imports the image, but doesn't seem to convert.I must be missing something.

Gimp can open EPS files if you have Ghost Script installed.

yes but i don't think Gimp can save them back to SVG. I tried your link
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... ctor.shtml

It didn't seem to do anything, maybe I didn't do it right. It doesn't really matter, I can't seem to explain what I want to do, I keep getting suggestions on how to convert raster to vector (which isn't what I want to do) and suggestions about opening EPS, (which also isn't what I want to do) and it's getting kind of comical.

Well i know Gimp can open EPS files, then save them to PDF, then InkScape can open them.
I have heard that it is possible to open EPS files in Inkscape, but i have not been able to figure it out.
I have opened PDF with embedded vector images in Inkscape, and broke them into pieces that way.

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant.
Sounds like you need a EPS to svg converter
I do not know of any free ones.I will keep looking.

I can open EPS with xara, I'm just trying to get away from that. What i want to do is convert from one vector format to another, like faststone or irfanview or xnview does with bitmaps but i wanted to to it in batch, so i could download a passle of say, EPS or AI and batch convert them to WMF or SVG.

Yeah i know of one Contenta Converter Premium, batch converts EPS to SVG or any image to whatever ...
You do need Ghost Script installed to convert or work with post script though. After install, Just click file/configure ghost script, and Converter will ask you for the location of the ghost script installation in program files.
Its usually C:\\Program Files\gs..... locate the bin folder and convertor will give you an all done message.Ghost script is now installed and you can multi convert EPS to SVG, or work with any other post script file.
Ghost script is free
Contenta however isnt free, images are watermarked until you pay 30.00 USD for it.The trial lasts for 30 days.
I converted an 8 mb EPS into a 315 kb SVG in seconds with it.

If it's something you may use a lot, it may be worth buying.
You may want to try source-forge search page and see if one is being projected..

here is a screen shot.

I have ghost script installed, Scribus needs it too. $30 is't out of the realm of possibilities if it does what i need. I'll give it a try, thanks.
