Check that there are drivers for your tablet for your operating system. For Wacom, support exists even in Linux (which I'm using). Also, if you can test the feel somewhere, it can help you decide. If it works well in your hand, it is a good sign. Even here (in Finland) we have hardware shops who let customers try out tablets and other peripherals. (I tried very expensive Wacom Cintiq and decided I didn't like it, even when I'm long time Wacom Intuos user...

Wacom is so well supported by OS and graphical app makers that sometimes it is easy to forget that there are other makers. I had Genius mouse years ago, it was very accurate. Maybe there are Genius tablet users here?
