A few days i saw a genius tablet, and the reviews are ok, but i didn´t find any gimp user reviewing this tablet, so my question is. Is it possible to have compatibility issues with a genius tablet?

if i wrote anything wrong, excuse my bad english, is not my native language  .

I have never heard anything negative about Genius tablets, I guess it would be like comparing a Ford to a Chevy, different product same results. Some of our very talented artists on this forum may be able to answer your question more precisely. I use a Wacom with the pen and mouse and it works great but that doesn't mean it is better.

Check that there are drivers for your tablet for your operating system. For Wacom, support exists even in Linux (which I'm using). Also, if you can test the feel somewhere, it can help you decide. If it works well in your hand, it is a good sign. Even here (in Finland) we have hardware shops who let customers try out tablets and other peripherals. (I tried very expensive Wacom Cintiq and decided I didn't like it, even when I'm long time Wacom Intuos user... :D )

Wacom is so well supported by OS and graphical app makers that sometimes it is easy to forget that there are other makers. I had Genius mouse years ago, it was very accurate. Maybe there are Genius tablet users here?

That depends if you plan to use it in GNU/Linux. So if you use GNU/Linux, it is recommended to buy a wacom tablet because generic tablets or Genius tablets have a basic support or poor support.
If you use Windows, the reviews I've read of some artists say that even the cheapest Wacom is better than any Genius. But still a Genius in Windows may be our first experience in tablets and work perfect.
I've also read that new wacom models have a very rough surfaces and the tips are very soft, so you should change the pen tip often and is more expensive maintenance. I don't like these rough surfaces, but I'm not an artist and I think that kind of surfaces is important to them.

I'm running Linux Mint with a cheap, £35, Wacom Bamboo tablet and it works just fine. I mainly use it for layer mask work but I'm sure it would be good for other stuff. When I first set it up I was using Windows vista and the pen seemed a bit twitchy but since I've switched to Linux, Gimp and the bamboo work much better.

thanks all for the fast replies!!!(i was expecting to wait around 24 hours or more for some little experience)
Wow, it seems like it's worth to pay more for a wacom for some serious work, but i don't want extreme precision. Basically i like painting in gimp the textures for my 3d models and the mouse does just fine putting random scratches, stains, dust etc.... but i wanted to try something different because is not very comfortable for my wrist to move the mouse so often and plus, the pen will save me tons of time with the pressure functions.

I use a Hanvon tablet and it works fine for Gimp. :)

I believe many non wacom tablets will work.

Depends on your needs. Wacom tablets generally have the best Linux support, so if you use Linux it's best to get a Wacom. Otherwise, if you only need a Bamboo-quality tablet, then it doesn't matter much if you get a Wacom or something else, but if you want a serious graphics tablet, your best bet is getting an Intuos or better.
