Well, PhotoComix, I can "polaroid" it and have each layer come out as a polaroid picture using G'MIC (did it all at once), but the growing from nothing to full sized and spinning I'd have to think on that. Didn't Fencepost have a script that did that?
Later entry. Here's a link to the script I'm thinking about:

there are (or at least there were, i am still fighting with the new laptop and i still have to reinstall gimp-gmic ) 2 polaroid filters in gmic
I think you refer to the first , the most visible but there is also a animated version (should be in the "sequences" gmic submenu ) that allow to set a initial and a final size
It will create a animation but i am not sure that could be applied to a sequence,
more clearly obviously IT COULD be applied to a animation, is just needed to have all frames as layers and chose as gmic input "all layers"
BUT the result will be really messy and delusively far to what desired :what desired:
supposing a animation of ten frames ,going from setting 1 to setting 10 (setting 1 is determined from the initial value chosen , 10 by the ending values chosen , the other 8 in between are automatically calculated by the filter) ,
applied to edit a already animated 10 frames sequence, imported as layer stack of 10 layers desired result would be
1 ) layer 1( the top layer )edited with setting 1 (=1 new frames, = 1 new image or layer ,depending from the output option chosen)
2) layer 2 edited with setting 2 ((2 frame of desired animation)
3) and so on and on till Layer 10 edited with setting
and result will be a 10 frames animation ready
But instead as now gmic would
1) apply setting to 1 to 10 to the first layer , creating 10 new frames from it
(=10 new images or layers)
2) same for layer 2 , output would be 10 new frames
3) same for all other layer
And so the final result will be not a animation of 10 layers ready, but 100 images to sort out :
of those
only 10 are needed and should be
manually searched and saved, and the rest,
the 90% are rendered only because there is not a command to prevent it but are just to end in the trash bin
Maybe here is some solution i didn't think of ?
I believe could be
